IKALE-ILAJE-APOI PROGRESSIVE UNION, TX, USA DONATES SOLAR BOREHOLE TO ESE-ODO COMMUNITY IN ONDO

The IKALE-ILAJE-APOI Progressive Union in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area, TX, USA, has successfully constructed a solar borehole in Sabome, Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This union, also known as IIAPU, was founded approximately two decades ago in Dallas, Texas, by members of the indigenous communities of Ikale, Ilaje, and Apoi. Its primary mission is to provide assistance to those in need, both within the diaspora and in their homeland.

In their ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of their people, they have completed a solar borehole project in the Sabome community, ensuring access to clean and potable water. The IIAPU expresses gratitude to God, the king, the community of Sabome, its leaders, and its residents for the opportunity to fulfill this essential water provision need.

Furthermore, the IIAPU has undertaken various previous projects, such as supplying hospital equipment and wheelchairs to hospitals in Okitipupa, as well as constructing desks and chairs for schools in the Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government area, while their overarching goal remains steadfast – to continue meeting the needs of their people wherever and whenever possible.

The President of the Union, Mr. Olamide Oloruntimilehin (Son to late Manager JMJ) while speaking with Coastal Renaissance, said that the project was aimed at providing potable water for the people, stressed that some who grew up in villages before travelling to America they felt that the best way to give back to their communities was to provide amenities that would improve the well-being of their people, adding that stream water had been a source of many diseases in local areas, especially cholera that had claimed many lives.

He appealed to the community dwellers to take ownership of the solar borehole by protecting the project from vandals, saying that the role of the Ikale-Ilaje-Apoi Progressive Union in TX, USA is not to take over the responsibility of government but to complement its efforts so as to improve the lives of their people in Ondo State.

Speaking on behalf of Sabome people, the head of the community, thanked the Union, saying that the community would not be in a hurry to forget the gesture of the Union because the new water source would help prevent the spread of water-borne diseases that has been affecting the community dwellers, while promising total security and protection of the project jealously, ensured that it would not be vandalised by unscrupulous elements.

Meanwhile, in Sabome, it was jubilation galore for the people of the community, as the project was said to have put an end to years of long distance walk to fetch water in a pond for domestic use.
