Ondo State’s core South region is bracing for a wave of opportunity as OSOPADEC Chairman, Prince Biyi Poroye, drops another hint on a historic plan with Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa to launch the School of Maritime Transport and Logistics in Ugbonla, Ilaje LGA.
The move will be sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a decisive step toward transforming a vision into a tangible, game-changing reality. This agreement is set to open unprecedented opportunities for youth in the region, empowering them with skills to thrive in today’s competitive economy.
Beyond empowering individuals, the initiative is poised to stimulate local industries, attract investment, and ignite sustainable economic growth that will resonate across the region for generations to come.
Prince Poroye, speaking while hosting OAUSTECH’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa and his team in his office said the visit highlighted OSOPADEC’s strong ties with OAUSTECH and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting education, research, and capacity building in its mandate areas.
“This is not a white elephant project. It is an investment for present and future generations. By 2026, the first batch of world-class maritime professionals will walk through our doors, as we complete every detail with precision and purpose. My team has inspected the project site, the vision is clear, and our resolve is unshakable; we mean business”, he revealed.
The 60% completed facility will train the next generation of shipping experts, port managers, nautical scientists, and logistics masterminds, putting Ondo State on the global maritime map.
Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, impressed with the Chairman declaration said OSOPADEC’s role in the region was unshakable and revealed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered the university to work hand-in-glove with the Commission.
“We’re here to cement this partnership and push abandoned projects over the finish line. The School of Maritime must be completed and fast,” he stressed.
With the memorandum of understanding underway 2026 locked in as the admission year, the Ugbonla Maritime School is set to launch a new tide of jobs, skills, and economic power for Ondo State’s oil-producing areas.
