RE: HON.BUNMI TUNJI OJO(BTO) RETURNS AS CHAIRMAN, HOUSE COMMITTEE ON NDDC.
It has been observed with a great sense of concern and responsibility on the social media, the rumoured return of Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo (BTO) as Chairman, House Committee on NDDC in the 10th Assembly. A profound cognizance has also been taken of the hasty reactions trailing the purported appointment.
For the records, Hon. Tunji-Ojo has been a familiar personality within the political corridors of the NASS for almost 20 years, even before his election to the House of Representatives in 2019. Aside being Chairman, Committee on NDDC, he was a member of several committees (like others) which may have enabled him to deliver as noticed.
BTO’s performance could only have been made possible by the symbiotic relationship amongst legislators in the House which gave him the enabling platform. This is the key desire of every lawmaker, including our own Hon Donald Ojogo, in pursuit of effective representation. No one can do it alone in the House. It is, therefore, preposterous to attribute his achievements only to his headship of the NDDC Committee in the last four years.
The current vitriolic attacks on Hon. Ojogo’s colleague, BTO, ostensibly coming from Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency and majorly initiated by those who never wanted Ojogo, are not just uncalled for; such are designed to create the needless foundation of mistrust, suspicion and effective wedges on the path of synergy. Every fresh lawmaker who desires to perform must be prepared to understudy whoever had performed to the admiration of the public.
Therefore, the current media attacks on BTO are uncharitable, to say the least. They must stop if we wish to move forward as a Federal Constituency. Let’s not project an alien posture of entitlement mentality; we are lovers of peace in Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency.
For emphasis, we need others to live just as others need us to live. The appointment of Committee Chairmen is at the instance of the presiding officer, Mr.Speaker in this regard; and no Committee is the exclusive entitlement of any geo-political zone, let alone State or even a Federal Constituency.
