CALL ONDO CP TO ORDER NOW OR ELSE…, ALABI TELLS IGP
_”The bias of the Ondo CP stinks to high heaven. The only protest he allows in the state is protest in favour of the government. To him, no other protest should be carried out. I believe very firmly that the right to protest or associate is guaranteed under the law.”_
I want to use this medium to call on the Inspector General of Police to call the Ondo CP to order now, before things get out of hand. His responsibility as the CP of this state is not to come and defend illegality and the government against the people.
The CP’s attempt to gag the people’s rights to free expression is fast becoming the order of the day.
The CP had made frantic efforts to stop the press conference organised by the Ondo Liberation Initiative, O. L. I. Scheduled to hold at the NUJ press centre, Akure on the 24th October, 2023. But when the CP couldn’t get the event criminalised, he decided to look away and refusing to carry out his responsibility of securing the lives and properties. The CP had earlier claimed he had an intelligent report that the group, O.L.I was going to stage a protest. But the same CP couldn’t get intelligent report that thugs would take over the venue! His actions on that day are suspicious and call for concern.
The NUJ leadership made frantic efforts to get the police involved when thugs came to disrupt the peace of the NUJ press centre. Yet police vans were packed at the junction of Adegbemile with armed officers waiting to stop a perceived protest. The thugs that came to besiege the pen centre were Okada riders that were mobilised in their hundreds and led by a certain government agent. Yet the police abandoned us to our fate.
The bias of this CP stinks to high heaven. The only protest he does allow is a pro (protest in support of govt). To him, no other protest should be allowed. I believe very firmly that the right to protest or associate is guaranteed under the law. The attempt by the CP to stop people from expressing their civic rights is wrong and should stop henceforth. I want to believe that officers of his status should have a better style of administration of crisis and conflict management.
The security of the people should be paramount and he must be aware that his being here is not only to defend every action of the people in government even when they are wrong.
Consequent upon the foregoing, I want to call on the IGP to call the Ondo CP to order now.
“A word they say, is enough for the wise”.
