Ibadan Explosion: Yoruba Obas Forum Sympatizes With Victims, commends Quick Response Of Oyo State Govt, Security Agencies
Yoruba Obas Forum under the leadership of HRM Oba Samuel Olumide Adeoye, Edema 1, Molokun of Atijere kingdom, has
sympathized with victims affected by the Ibadan explosion, saying it is deeply saddened by the grim effect of the blast around in Bodija residential district in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a release signed and made available to journalists by the President, Yoruba Obas Forum, HRM Oba Samuel Olumide Adeoye, Edema 1 Molokun of Atijere kingdom, on behalf of Yoruba Obas, condoled with Oyo State Government and entire people of the Oyo State over the unfortunate occurrence.
Oba Samuel Adeoye, however commended the quick response of the government and the security agencies to allay the fears of the people and doused the tension of the citizenry. He however urged the causer of the explosion to always take precautions when storing items that are capable of unleashing devastating consequences on people and charged them to always handle them carefully.
The Monarch then called on security operatives and individuals to be more alerted and security conscious to avoid further harm.
The monarch on behalf of Yoruba traditional rulers wished those injured speedy recovery, while emphasising the need for the government at all levels to expedite action in assisting the victim’s family and also lend support to those whose property were destroyed.
It would be recalled that Governor Makinde of Oyo State has confirmed the occurrence of Ibadan explosion, which claimed the life of two people and injured 77 people, reportedly caused by illegal miners who stored explosive devices in one of the buildings in the Bodija area of Ibadan.
According to the Governor, “We visited the scene of the explosion which occurred at about 7.44 pm on 16th January, 2024 in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.”
“This unfortunate incident resulted in death and injury to residents in the vicinity and also affected properties. We have already deployed first responders and all relevant agencies within Oyo State to carry out comprehensive search and rescue operations.” Governor Makinde said
