PEER ENVY: THE CASE OF BUNMI TUNJI OJO, BTO.
The green-eyed monster refers to one’s attitude toward the possessions or attainments of others. To envy is to feel resentful and unhappy because someone else possesses, or has achieved, what one wishes oneself to possess, or to have achieved. It is also an emotion which occurs when a person lacks another’s quality, skill, achievement, or possession. This will always happen amongst mortal beings because of our nature and the way we are created.
Since it is impossible for people of the same or different generation to have the same qualities embedded in them, a twinge of envy will always occur in the course of life journey. Let us look at the factors responsible for envy and why it is a predominant feature in our clime. In life, some do not have access to opportunities; some misuse or shatter their golden opportunities, while some maximize the little they have to improve their lots. Those who squander their excellent chances may invariably become an agent of covetousness while those who make proper utilization of theirs may become victims of spite. This monster called envy is an unnecessary distractor in our society. After all, God has given everyone a little opportunity to grow and multiply.
Every star in a generation will always be a victim of resentfulness because of his unique possessions or qualities. Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, BTO, a young man who made judicious use of his early life by being responsible and upright in all his dealings, is not and can not be an exemption to this rule. His academic profile, political trajectory, strategic leadership qualities and intellectual capacity are the superior advantages responsible for this envious feelings by his peers and distractors. More importantly, his ministerial nomination came to them as a rude shock, the reason for the baseless allegations that came out afterwards. Unfortunately for them, no matter the venom of envy, Hon. Bunmi will continue to grow from strength to strength as the personification of political enigma, entrepreneur par excellence and exemplary leadership.
It is certain that BTO will play a pivotal role in the Tinubu-led Government. Therefore, BTO will remain steadfast and focused irrespective of what his distractors, either in his generation or above his generation, are doing to bring him down from the contemporary leadership echelon of this country.
Peer envy is real.
