Molokun of Atijere, Odogun of Igbekebo, Olugbemi, Kunlere, Mafo, Akinjo, Poroye, Omojuwa, Ebitigha, Ogungbure Baloguns, others honour former Ondo Commissioner, Omolebi Adepiti at mother’s funeral in Ilaje
The ancient town of Igboegunrin in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State played host to prominent personalities on Saturday during the funeral of Mrs. Keturah Duromike Adepiti (Nee Ogebe), mother of the former Commissioner for Environment, Ondo State, Chief Omolebi Adepiti.
In a burial service held at the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Irapada, Igboegunrin, Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo State, had in attendance, Retired Bishop Idowu Olugbemi, Anglican Communion, Ilaje Diocese and his wife; Senator Boluwaji Kunlere; Prince John Ola Mafo, former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the PDP; Hon. Justice Emmanuel Ebitigha, Presiding Judge, Customary Court, Ode Ugbo; Comrade Omolere Balogun, former General Secretary, Nigeria Union of Public Service Reportorial; Comrade Ayoola Balogun, Deputy General Secretary, National Union of Civil Engineering Construction Furniture and Wood Workers; Hon. Imisi Ogungbure amongst others.
Others at the reception ceremony to pay final respects to the deceased include HRM Oba Adeoye Edema, the Molokun of Atijere; HRM Oba Bamidele Dabo, the Odogun of Igbekebo; Hon. Kolade Akinjo, Member House of Representatives representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency; Prince Biyi Poroye, Executive Director Alpha 3D, Ondo State; Babarere Akinyomi, Imperial Prince of Mahin Land; Mr. Akin Falumo, Mr. Ladi Omotehinse, PDP Chairman, Ilaje Local Government and other prominent dignitaries.
The sons and daughters of the deceased who jointly gave a befitting burial for their late mother include Chief Omolebi Adepiti, Mrs. Dabo Ibidun, Dr. Folarin Adepiti, Mr. Vincent Adepiti, Mrs. Wura Awe, Mrs. Iwaire Akintomide, Mrs. Busola Iwaye and Seleire Adepiti.
In his tribute, Hon. Kolade Akinjo said, “the funeral of late Mrs. Duromike Adepiti, who died on 7th January, 2023 was another reunion for rivals who briefly put politics aside to celebrate a life well spent. Even at the ripe age of 83years, her passage was a rude shock to all of us as a family. When we
sparingly met on the 2nd of January, her usual style of relationship was not felt. She lived a fulfilled life, very useful and helpful to the people and the community. She lived for peace and ensured that
peace reigned. I will always remember her good naturedness and truthful disposition to issues.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Adieu, Ma”.
Duromike Keturah Adepiti (Nee Ogebe) was born on the 24th of October, 1939 to the family of Pa Igbekele and Madam Hareth Malomo
Ogebe at Itebukunmi, llaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. She
attended St. Luke’s Anglican primary school, Itebukunmi.
As the only daughter of the family, she was passionate and joined her mother in trading and later sent to Lagos to stay with her eldest brother, late Pa Robinson Folorunso Ogebe at Ayetoro beach, Ebute-Meta in Lagos State.
While in Lagos, she
learnt tailoring and also engaged in petty trading.
She met her husband, late High Chief Olusola Adepiti during one of her numerous
trips to the village to see her parents. Her sister-in-law, Madam Esther Fabonmi was
responsible for their coming together and they got married in 1962.
Mama is from the Royal family of Yasere in Ugbo land. She was simple, kindhearted,
and easy going during her me. She was a strict disciplinarian but with her love.
Mama strongly believed in training children in the way of the Lord. This, really helped her children and other children that grew up under
her roof in those early days when her husband was always on transfer from one
place to the other when she had to stay back at home to mind the home front.
Despite the fact that Mama was not a graduate but she loved education. She therefore stood by her husband in ensuring
that her children received proper and sound education. She would remind us those days, that whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well and that whoever does not take studies seriously would end up being subservient to his/her mates.
She was a pillar behind her husband in bringing the Christ Apostolic Church to
Igboegunrin community. She remained steadfast in the service of God and the Church (CAC) even after the demise of her husband. Mama was liberal to a fault and always eager to lend a helping hand to whoever asked for it.
Mama was blessed with nine children, four males (one late) and five females with
several grand- and great-grandchildren.
