National Association of Ilaje Students (NAIS), has honoured a leading aspirant for House of Representatives representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency, Idowu Mafimisebi with an award of Leadership and Integrity
Mafimisebi who was a guest speaker at NAIS National Day Celebration of NAIS @ 42, where he was also honoured with an award of Leadership and Integrity.
The programme which was held on Saturday 22nd January, 2022 at Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, has colouration of common cultural heritage as a vital part of identity.
While delivering his speech, Mafimisebi reiterated that the preservation of our cultural and natural heritage is an essential part of protecting a sense of identity which is the backbone of every nation around the world.
“Culture was developed naturally in the lives of every human being. It provides individuals with an automatic sense of unity and belonging within a group
“As the French author, André Malraux once uttered: “Who wants to read in the future, must scroll in the past.” There is a deep resonance in Malraux’s words, even today.
To prepare for the future, we must look to the past. Study the roots of our civilizations. Become conscious of history”.
“The emergence of the concept of cultural heritage is a result of a long historical development in which different values are attached to tangible cultural heritage such as monuments, buildings, works of arts, artifacts, landscapes and intangible cultural heritage such as rituals, language and traditions, all these are meant to promote love which will begat peace in the society for a peaceful coexistence”.
The destruction and misuse of these significant cultural elements has a lot to do with the controversial issues that are related to cultural arrogance, cultural appropriation and cultural borrowing in today’s society. It’s sardonic the status we are now and I urge us all to retrace our steps back to that Peaceful coexisting atmosphere we have been known for sometimes ago”.
“It’s a great pleasure for me as well to receive an Award of Leadership and Integrity from the apex student’s body in Ilaje Nation”. Mafimisebi said.
