NDDC Flags Off Distribution Of Relief Materials And Palliatives To Flood Hit Communities In Ondo State

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has flagged-off the distribution of relief materials and palliatives to the flooded communities across the mandate areas in Ondo State.

Among the relief materials and palliatives which distributed were Rice, Noodles, Bean, Garri, Salt, Milk, Sugar, Vegetable oil, Deasoning cubes, Tinned tomatoes, Bottled water, Nylon Mats, Treated mosquito nets, Bathing soap, Mattress/pillow, Blankets, Rubber Slippers and other consumable and valuable items.

Speaking during the ceremony at the Naval Base, Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, the NDDC Acting Managing Director, Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ameliorate the challenges facing the people of the oil-rich region.

The NDDC boss who was represented by the Ondo state Director, Barr. Salami Olaniyi Okogie said the Commission would continue to cater for the people of the Niger Delta Region and ensure robust and outstanding development which will consequently improve the economic growth and livelihood of the people in the region.

“It is in the spirit and vision of ameliorating the suffering of our people, the Commission has provided succour to the flood victims”.

In his speech, the Ag. MD, Audu-Ohwavborua declared that the NDDC would soon commence the flag off programme for free medical outreaches to various communities in the Niger Delta region, noting that “this will bring critical life-saving healthcare services nearer to the people across the Niger Delta Region, especially when flood had eroded away the healthcare systems and infrastructure with potential for epidemics like Cholera.”

Furthermore, the NDDC Boss noted that the flood has adversely affected lives and properties of the people in the mandate areas of Ondo State.

He assured that the Commission has put good measures in place in all the NDDC mandate states because the Commission was set up to address such emergency situation like this.

He urged the community leaders to ensure a judicious and fare distribution of the relief materials, underlining the importance of letting the items to get to those people who were directly affected by the flood.

The Chairman of Ilaje LGA, Hon Goke Jatuase who flagged off the programme commended the proactive approach of the NDDC to ameliorate the suffering of the flood victims.

Some of the communities who were directly affected by the flood in Ondo State are Odonla, Ikorigho, molutehin, Awoye, Rewoye, Rebiminu, Oropo obinehin, Seja , Ayetoro, Okonla, Ogogoro etc,.

While speaking with our correspondence at Coastal Renaissance news, Mr. David Omosayo – a senior staff of the NDDC said that the relief materials and palliatives would be made available to over 167 communities spread across the Ondo State, stating that the distribution would be in phases.

Responding on behalf of the affected communities were HRH Oba Femi Ogbaro, the Odoka of Obe Ogbaro dynasty, Primate Afolabi Aboyewa and Chief Olatunji Eyitoyo.
According to Oba Ogbaro, “we are sincerely delighted by this gesture from the NDDC. I thank the NDDC Boss and State Director for attending to the flood victims and rise to their immediate needs. We are indeed grateful. Oba Ogbaro said.

The Kabiyesi however charged both the federal and state governments to always put good measure in place to curtail the excesses of flood disaster in the state.
