Ondo Commissioner, Saka Yusuf moves to reposition Sports, suspends Ogunja as ODSFA GM
Ondo State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye in his bid to reposition Sports in the state has scrapped some appointments and offices in both the state football agency and sports council.
Yusuf-Ogunleye, in a separate meeting with the management of Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) and Ondo State Sports Council, said he meant business with his second coming to the sports ministry.
Some of the moves made included; Suspension of Mr Tunde Ogunja as General Manager of ODSFA after the expiration of his contract with the agency, as he said that such a position was alien to the agency, and the position of Director of Sports.
Also, Sunshine Stars’ secretary was removed from the management team of the agency, noting only appointees of the governor and management of the agency are statutory members of the board.
Yusuf-Ogunleye, who promised to reconstitute the associations committees in the Sports Council with people that will add value to the development of sports, directed the management of the football agency to furnish him with the spending of the agency in the last six months.
The commissioner later directed the management of the agency, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry and the management of ODSFA to liaise with the Ministry of Justice and Ondo State House of Assembly to look into the law establishing the agency in 2008 and to have an enabling law backing the new name as ODSFA.
Yusuf-Ogunleye said he would later in the week meet with technical crews of both Sunshine Stars and Queens to understand the real problem why both teams had hit a new low in their respective leagues.
The commissioner promised to restructure and reposition the ministry and agency under the ministry that was not going to be business as usual.
He also directed the establishment of a feeders team for Sunshine Queens.
“We won’t allow cartel and cabal to survive and I am determined to move the ministry forward. I therefore call for understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders for effective performance,” he said.
The Commissioner, also while playing host to the new General Manager of the Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite, announced the dissolution of committees and associations in the council since the tenure of serving members had expired last year.
The commissioner later announced the appointment of Mr Ayodeji Salami from Acting Director of Coaching to substantive director
