Ondo Executive Meeting: Aiyedatiwa steps down 6 memos, says he lacks executive powers to approve

The Deputy Governor lacks the executive power to perform the duties of the office of the governor without a written communication from the Governor – Alabi Johnson
The Ondo State Executive Council meeting which had long been expected eventually held yesterday, 30th November 2023. The meeting had in attendance, the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa who presided over the Exco, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, SSG, Commissioners and so on. Exco meeting has not held for over three (3) months.
The much awaited Cabinet meeting didn’t however achieve much. It was rather ceremonial than executive. Memos brought to the Exco had to be stepped down because of lack of Executive Power to prosecute the memos.
Despite the fact that the Deputy Governor presided over the Exco, he had no executive power to perform the required function of approving/signing the memos. About six (6) memos were brought to the Cabinet meeting but have to be step down for lack of Executive Powers to so approve.
The Deputy Governor is not constitionally permitted by law to exercise executive powers if it is not communicated in writing to him. So if care isn’t taken, we may be having this ceremonial like Exco for many times and many memos have to wait indefinitely. I feel that this is stagnation and isn’t good for our state! Hence, call on the leaders to rescue the state from the hands of the political Masqueraders.
During the meeting the Deputy Governor and the members deliberated the Abuja resolution and the need to continue to work together harmoniously.
