Timber Smuggling: Ondo Taskforce arrests Truck conveying stolen Logs in Igbotako

In a bid to put an end the timber smuggling in Ondo South, the Taskforce led by the Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Forestry and Produce, Hon. Bidemi Joshua Obayagban also known as OC General, has arrested truck conveying stolen logs in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State.
In a bid to put an end to illegal timber smuggling network, the Ondo State taskforce on forestry and produce has confisticated a truck loaded with timber and arrested the driver
The truck was said to have been transporting illegal timber from Omotosho forest area in Okitipupa local government area.
The timbers were in a truck belonging to a bottling company suspected to be heading for illegal sawmills.
During arrest, the driver could not provide valid documents for transporting the timber.
This led to the seizure of the truck and the consignment and handed over to the Amotekun corps for further action.
Comrade Obayagban who led the operation, issued a warning to all those involved in illegal timber trade within the district, vowed to put an end to timber smuggling in Ondo South.
He warned truck owners to ensure that their vehicles are not used for transporting timber without necessary transit pass and documents.
Obayagban said, “We are determined to dismantle the network involved in illegal timber smuggling.
“The seizure of the consignment is a result of the concerted efforts of our team and citizens. The preservation of our forests is vital and those responsible for such illegal activities will be brought to justice.”
He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to illegal timber trade.
