Aiyetoro-Ilaje Sea incursion: Senator Tofowomo goes completely infuriated at the Senate, urges Federal Government to take immediate action in rescuing the lives & properties of its citizenry
The Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, had urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to set up a Rescue Committee over the persistent ocean incursion in Aiyetoro community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Senator who went completely infuriated at the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, 18th May, 2021, cited Order 42 and 52 to present his motion on the incessant Ocean incursion in Aiyetoro Community of the Ondo South Senatorial District.
Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, the Lawmaker representing the Senatorial district, informed the Senate that Aiyetoro community is currently suffering from a severe incessant ocean disaster which needs urgent attention by the Federal Government.
You would recall that the Senator had on November 25, 2020, raised an alarm over the ocean incursion and looming disaster in the Aiyetoro community, Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo state.
It was gathered by Coastal Renaissance news online that the Senator was highly infuriated because is the second alarm through presentation motions that would be raised by him over the ongoing disaster (Ocean incursion) in Aiyetoro community.
Tofowomo who lamented the level of damages by the current Ocean disaster hope that the Buhari-led administration will take immediate action and respond urgently to the cries of his constituents.
“I moved a motion on Aiyetoro Community, Ondo state for suffering a severe Ocean disaster which has destroyed over 300 houses and swept away fishing tools making Aiyetoro floating city a disaster”.
“Three(3) resolutions were made which are as follows;”
(1). ”Urge the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Ondo State Government to respond and assist victims in the community as well as develop a master plan that includes building of ocean barriers to control flooding and ocean surge in the region;”
(2). “Urge the Nigeria Maritime, Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to visit Ayetoro ascertain the level of destruction in the community with a view to proffer solution to prevent future occurrence”.
(3). “Urge Oil Producing Companies to assist the community in re-building some of the infrastructure destroyed by the surge.”
“Mr President, Distinguished Colleagues, I am very angry and disturbed that Aiyetoro floating city has been abandoned since November 2020 and none of the resolutions was executed.
“The question now is, who is going to assist the Community? I am now appealing to the federal government to please come to Aiyetoro’s rescue by setting up a rescue committee that will Include Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ondo State Government, Nigeria Maritime, Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Oil companies within the region without delay”. Tofowomo said.
