Amapetu of Mahinland Clarifies Remarks on Land Sales, Calls for Peace and Unity in Igbokoda
The Palace of the Amapetu of Mahinland wishes to address the public concerns and rising tensions following remarks made by His Royal Majesty, Oba Segun Williams Akinyomi, the Amapetu of Mahinland during the recent Lebile Family Day celebration. The Chief Press Secretary has been authorised to present the following clear and definitive clarification on behalf of the Amapetu.
His Royal Majesty has noted the widespread misinterpretation of his comments and the ensuing discord within the community. It is important to state unequivocally that the Amapetu’s address did not endorse the exclusive ownership of Igbokoda by any particular ancient settler family.
The core message of His Majesty’s remarks was to highlight the ongoing challenge posed by the indiscriminate sale of land in Igbokoda by non-indigenes-a practice that threatens the legitimate ancestral rights and heritage of the true descendants of the land. His intention was to safeguard the community from external encroachment and unauthorised transactions that undermine long-standing cultural and historical claims.
The Amapetu recognises that aspects of the message may have been misunderstood and regrets any distress caused by such interpretations. To promote harmony and mutual respect, the Palace formally retracts any readings suggesting that a single family holds exclusive ownership of Igbokoda. His Royal Majesty expresses sincere regret for any confusion that may have arisen.
The Amapetu of Mahinland remains fully committed to protecting the rights, dignity, and heritage of all lineages in Igbokoda. His Majesty appeals to all stakeholders-family heads, youth groups, and community leaders-to maintain peace and immediately suspend any planned reactions or hostilities.
The enduring strength of Igbokoda lies in the unity of its ancient families and the collective resolve to protect the land from exploitation. At this critical time, the community must stand together to uphold harmony, defend our shared heritage, and resist any attempts to sow division.
