Give life to OSOPADEC, our people are suffering, NDYM Chairman, Akin Omojuwa begs Governor Akeredolu

The Chairman of Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) in Ondo State, Comrade Akin Omojuwa, has commented on the recent celebration of 100 days in office of Governor Akeredolu, nothing that no single project was commissioned in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Governments and appealed to the Governor to give life to OSOPADEC for effective operation.

Following the recent second term celebration of Governor Akeredolu’s 100 days in office, the NDYM Chairman, Akin Omojuwa has observed closely that the Governor did not commission any single project in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Governments despite the oil exploration and exploitation in the areas.

While speaking with Coastal Renaissance online on phone, appealed to Governor Akeredolu to give life to OSOPADEC and ensure the Commission lives up to her expectations in the mandate area.

In his statement, he quoted Part III section 7 (i) a & b function of the OSOPADEC Act which says, “the Commission shall receive and administer exclusively the 40% of the 13% oil derivation fund accruing to the Ondo State Government for the rehabilitation and development of oil Producing areas in the state; and other developmental projects as may be determined from time to time by the Commission”.

Omojuwa expressed the pains of the youths over the neglect of the oil producing areas despite the 40% of the 13% oil derivation fund accruing to the Ondo State Government for the rehabilitation and development of the areas.

“We noticed that there was no single project commissioned in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Governments by the Governor while celebrating his second term 100 days in office. This gave us a lot of worries and concerns”.

“We want to appeal to the Governor to give OSOPADEC life as a matter of urgency and liberate her from the present financial incapacitation she finds herself”.

“We don’t want to fight the Governor for now because we believe so much in his leadership and also know that he’s a ‘talk and do’ Governor that is why we are appealing to him. However, if he turns down our appeal, we will then restrategise on the next line of action”. Akin Omojuwa said.

Omojuwa finally appealed to the Governor to call the Accountant General of the state to order against unnecessary delay in releasing OSOPADEC funds. He then urged the Governor to warn the Accountant General against mismanagement and misappropriation of the OSOPADEC funds.
