OSOPADEC Chairman, Sam Erejuwa Applauds Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Proactiveness As Ondo Water Corporation Okeys Molutehin Water For Human Consumption
OSOPADEC Chairman, Sam Erejuwa has reaffirmed that Ondo State will fare better while the coastal region of the State will witness accelerated development and the recovery of its lost glory under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
Erejuwa revealed this on Thursday while receiving report of the Ondo State Water Corporation, indicating the analytical result of the laboratory test conducted on a water sample from the Molutehin Mini Water Supply Scheme and Treatment Plant. The document certified that the treated water is now safe for human consumption.
The Ondo State Water Corporation had in early February received for comprehensive test and analysis, a water sample from the Molutehin Water Project being constructed by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).
The multi-million Naira project was conceived to make life better and easier for the dwellers of the oil-rich communities of the mandate areas, who have no access to portable water but need to travel (on canoes) to long distance in search of the basic need of life.
The duly signed Certificate of Analysis was also made available to the Information Unit of the Commission.
Amongst the test and analysis carried out on the water sample (laboratory number: 23/CA/2024) included: physical parameters (appearance, odour and turbidity), chemical parameters (PH, chloride, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, total alkalinity, conductivity and total iron) and microbiological analysis comprising of coliforms, aerobic mesophilic count and H2S paper strip.
Commenting on the test result, the Director, Quality Control and Sanitation in the Ondo State Water Corporation who supervised the process said: “It is hereby certified that on 19/2/204, a Water Sample TAGGED MOLUTEHIN WATER (TREATED) in a plastic container from MOLUTEHIN was brought for analysis. The said sample under the same condition as received was analyzed”.
Speaking further the Director declared that from the result of the test conducted, the water is now safe for human consumption, stressing that “the parameters analyzed are within the World Health Organization (WHO) standards for drinking water quality”.
This development is indeed another landmark achievement, bringing into reality the vision of the Sam Erejuwa led administration to end the perennial problem relating to scarcity of portable water in Molutehin and its neighbouring communities.
It would be recalled that the Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Sam Erejuwa on Friday 9th September 2022 led the Board, Management and Technical staff of the Commission to Molutehin where the construction of the water project was flagged-off amid wild jubilation and praises by the people.
During an assessment visit and evaluation exercise carried out by the Project Department, in collaboration with the Information Unit of the Commission in January, it was reported that the much-anticipated project has reached an advanced stage of completion with all necessary equipment fully on ground.
The project contractor (Tripple Aaron Bee Ltd) explained that the facility would treat contaminated water before it is reticulated to the neighbouring communities. This would undoubtedly provide a lasting solution to the perennial scarcity of portable water thereby making life better for the people.
OSOPADEC Chairman, Sam Erejuwa who could not hide his joy attributed the great feat to the help of God and the huge support received from the Ondo State Government. He appealed to the people of the mandate areas to intensify their prayers and not relent in their support for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to enable him achieve his transformational plans for the Niger-Delta region.
When commissioned and put into use, the Molutehin Water Scheme would complement the Aboto Water Project; another multi-billion Naira water project of the Commission (OSOPADEC), with treatment plant located at Aboto, Ilaje LGA, where 2million gallons of water is treated daily, before its reticulation to various Ilaje communities.
