POROYE CONGRATULATES AKEREDOLU & AIYEDATIWA OVER TRIBUNAL VICTORY, URGES JEGEDE TO STOP DISTRACTING AKEREDOLU UNNECESSARILY
A Chieftain of the APC and Chairman of the Emerging Political Platform (EPP) in Ondo State, Prince Poroye Biyi Bill, has joined numerous other Nigerians to congratulate Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa over Tribunal victory.
Poroye also hailed the verdict of the Ondo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the victory of the duo yesterday, Tuesday 20th April, 2021.
The Ondo State Election Petition Tribunal, saddled with the task of handling the complaints emanating from the 10th October 2020 governorship poll in the state, has dismissed a petition filled by the candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede against the reelection of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN of the APC.
The petition was struck out for want of Jurisdiction and lack of merit.
Delivering the judgement, the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Umar Abubakar, held that “Issues raised therein in this petition are settled issue of internal affairs and Management of a political party which this Tribunal has no Jurisdiction”.
The court therefore upheld the reelection of Akeredolu.
The tribunal ruled that Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa were duly nominated and sponsored by the APC in line with section 177 of the constitution and section 31 of the electoral Act.
Justice Abubakar said the electoral laws did not specify who to submit the names of candidates, saying “doing so is just for administrative convenience.”
The Chairman of the Tribunal added that copies of the judgment would be made available to concerned parties.
Poroye finally urged the candidate of the PDP, Eyitayo Jegede to stop pursuing the wind by appealing the judgement.
“As a SAN, I think the man (Eyitayo Jegede) should know what the Electoral Law says. The law says that any candidate who scores less than 25% of the total votes cannot be declared winner of any election. We all know that Jegede did not score up to 25% in the last Governorship Election. So, why is the man wasting his precious time pursuing the wind he knows he cannot catch. The man should stop distracting Governor Akeredolu unnecessarily”. Poroye declared.
